Current state of customer service from Coinbase / GDAX and Gemini:
Both are absolutely unacceptably terrible. If a NYS licensed exchange is needed, Coinbase / GDAX, and Gemini are the exchanges approved. This is one key area (customer service) where cryptocurrency exchanges fail miserably. To gain widespread puplic acceptance beyond crypto-libertarians, code-geeks, futurists, visionarys, early tech adopters, and hopeful risk taking investors... new exchanges will have to hire marketing experts who can facilitate taking acceptance to the next level. This of course coupled with currency recognition wins like in Japan while minimizing overregulation...
Currently, Coinbase is uncapable of responding to a customer service email within a weeks time and counting. GDAX signin is directly controlled by Coinbase. If you have a credit card that has an overresponsive security department, they may cancel your card or refuse the charge. This can trigger an automated response by Coinbase to lock your account. New Gemini users are informed that identity verification takes 1-3 business days. However, according to a forum on Reddit, customers may experience a delay of over ten days... not including bank account verification that must take place after the identity verification. The latest round of new exchanges are facing greater regulation but are not yet equipped to keep pace with demand from customers.
